North Side Beach At The Indian River Inlet Under Repair
The North side beach at the Indian River Inlet is being repaired again from Hurricane Dorian Storm Surge
Before Hurricane Dorian storm surge and wind could hit the Delaware coast, DNREC pumped a ton of sand onto the north side beach. The hope was to prevent further erosion and damage from the previous storm surge. It worked well, they did a great job with very little time. The beach is still there and you can hang out while the crews work. Lots of surfers were out today taking advantage of the wider surf break.
DNREC Crews are pumping sand onto the beach and using the bulldozer to rebuild the sheered off dunes. Pushing sand around that is pumped from the south side by the dredge on the crane. “Given enough time, we can get all of this fixed right up” Said a buddy of mine. Looking forward to seeing how it looks at the end of the week. Unfortunately we may see some serious weather near the end of the month.

When the Masseys Ditch dredging project starts this winter the crews will have all the sand they can handle. All of that sand dredged up widening the channels will be pumped into the surf to help build up the beach. If done right the sand bar system will receive the majority of the sand to naturally rebuild the beaches and sand bar systems.
