New Decking Has Started On The Pier

The Cape Henlopen State Park fishing pier is getting a new deck and the other day the crews started putting new wood down.  The pier looked different without any decking.  The new decking makes the pier look much better, and there is no longer a strip of plywood down the middle.  That strip is now three boards wide and the deck boards are cut to an angle to make a nice clean fit.  So far the crews have only gotten out as far as the dune edge, but it looks like they are making good time.  I spoke with parks while I was at the open house about the campground improvements.  I was told crews are making good time starting at the crack of dawn and working full days.  Hopefully they will be done by the beginning of May as scheduled.  In the mean time you can fish from the beach or wade fish.   That area is also great to drop in a kayak and fish the old pier pylons at the end.  At least this year we will have a summer with a fishing pier, unlike last year.
