The first annual “Andy and Opie” parents fishing with kids tournament

The first annual “Andy and Opie” parents fishing with kids tournament in Milton was a huge success this weekend.  We had over 100 kids sign up ready to fish.  They were given numbered wrist bands and a tub of night crawlers.  The weather was a little bleak looking at first, but the kids held out and fished in drizzling rain to mildly heavy showers.  The kids handled the bad weather like a champ.  Eventually the weather cleared and we were secretly wishing for clouds and rain again.  The kids caught bluegills, sunfish, crappie bass, large mouth bass, striped bass, yellow perch, white perch, eels,  turtles, and lots of catfish.  It was great day of fishing, most of the kids caught fish.  Irish eyes brought out 300 hot dogs for lunch and the kids ate but mostly wanted to keep fishing.  I was impressed, they were diehards.  The tournament went on without a hitch all day and by noon the numbers were run and we had our winners.

Everyone who helped with this tournament deserves a big round of applause, without them this would not have been possible.  We had a lot of our friends and sponsors come out and help with the measuring stations and just be on hand to help anyone in need.  The Milton fire department was close by if we needed any medical assistance.  DSF was proud to be a sponsor, and I am already looking forward to next year .  All of the volunteers did a great job helping the kids.  We broadcast the tournament on the Delmarva Angler and I tried to do that as well as help the kids.  At one point I was trying to yank a line caught up in a tree and some great pictures were taken of that escapade by my friends.  Seriously I was trying to help get the line untangled from the branch with the tired and true … pull, yank, shake, and snap technique!  The picture was taken strategically without anyone I was helping in it. (I need better friends)  I hope everyone enjoyed the tournament, we will see  you next year.

Fish On!!
