Peanuts With Pancakes On The Point

The point was so nice today, second summer abides

Nothing like driving out to the point at 1 PM, with no traffic and a not so crowded beach on a Saturday. The second summer crew was all over the place, good seeing everyone. Fishing was mediocre, but some were caught. Little kingfish and spot. Everyone was set up surf fishing and seeing each other for the first time since last second summer or spring. Second summer is much calmer. Despite it being a year, it is like it just happened yesterday.

Jeff had his cast net and at the end of the day on the outgoing tide nailed some peanut bunker with a sweet pancake throw. I am horrible at throwing cast nets. I can manage to get some fish, but that perfect pancake throw is difficult. At least I don’t gift wrap my head and fall over, yet.
Mullet have been far and few between, but the storm surge really stirred the fish pot up. Hoping to see more fish moving tomorrow we didn’t even see any bluefish schools today. But we were farther down on the bayside near the washing machine.

The day before the storm surge really hit there was a decent puppy drum, spot, croaker, and pompano bite. The spot bite has been on fire at the pier, even today. That is just across the harbor from the point. Right on the opposite side of the wall. It wasn’t hot for us but everyone enjoyed the day. Back at it tomorrow, second summer only lasts so long.
