The Overfalls Lightship cut loose and being towed by the Northstar 10 to the Maurice River

You have probably heard by now the Overfalls Lightship is returning to Lewes on Friday.  She was towed to New Jersey to get a new paint job and some of the zincs replaced on her hull.  The zincs are to protect the hull from stray electricity in the Lewes Canal.

So far the schedule for her return is set for Friday the  thirteenth.  The Northstar 10 tugboat owned by Phil Risko and captained by Billy Fehn, will start towing her from the Maurice river in New Jersey, and across the Delaware bay to Lewes at 6:30 am Friday.  She is scheduled to reach the Lewes canal around noon to pull her into the inlet at slack tide.  Tow boat US Indian River will assist the tow in and guide her to the slip in Lewes.

Overfalls Lightship undertow in the Lewes Canal

I am looking forward to seeing her again and tagging along with Captain Clarke Droney on Tow Boat US.  The yank and tow that was performed to get the Overfalls Lightship out of the Lewes canal was quite the spectacle.  I imagine there will be as large if not a larger crowd for her return.  We will keep you updated with any changes, but so far the weather looks perfect.

Fish On!
