Hurricane Sandy The Super Frankenstorm Hit 10 Years Ago

October 28 2012, it was 10 years ago today. She started out as Frankenstorm the potential Halloween Hurricane. I get a picture from a friend of mine on the morning of the 28th. This is a giant wave in Hatteras right now, you are going to get hammered in several hours.
I was house sitting at Broadkill beach. I took one look at that storm surge and decided it was time to bail. Hurricane Sandy hit Delaware the next day. Dubbed Frankenstorm before that, then became Super Storm Sandy and finally made landfall as Hurricane Sandy. I sat online for 70 straight hours and did storm updates on this page. With the help of friends all stuck in their places with little to do but watch the flood waters rise real fast. It was wild and honestly a lot of fun.
Now that we have DelDOT’s Charles W Cullen bridge pylon web cams we get a better view.
We also use the beach web cams to get a better idea of conditions.

These are pictures we collected during and after. From many sources. I think the wildest part was watching the entire Indian River inlet area and parking lot flood in minutes from the storm surge. The last people to leave the inlet area were watching trees wash across route 1.
Oct 29th a State of Emergency was declared with a level 2 driving restriction.
