Flounder Action Has Started

Spring fishing is finally getting better. Anglers have been creaming rats in the surf on most of the beaches. The action has been hot too. Small striped bass are hitting just about anything we throw at them, bloodworms are working well, but we are doing just as good if not better throwing lures. Literally it is a catch every cast and the action doesn’t stop before your arm is like Jello. I have some serious bass thumb. Now granted these aren’t the big forty pounders, but I will take quantity over quality any day. The best colors have been white but they will hit most anything. White has been the best color and we have been destroying fish on the new paddle swim baits from Lead Pot in Dagsboro. You have to check these out they are great soft plastics with a lot of action from the paddle tail.

Summer flounder are around the inland bays and we saw the first keeper yesterday caught a few days ago in the Indian River Bay. There have been a decent amount of small flounder caught around the bays. Sorry, but I don’t do locations when it comes to boats. Public land spots are one thing, but boat locations creates too many crowds in one spot. Besides they are fish and move around. Use minnows and the teaser rigs from Lead Pot for some great action. Chris Kramer and the boys tie up some great rigs ad will custom make anything you desire. Water temperatures are perfect for striped bass fishing. There are drum in the surf, use sand fleas or surf clam. There are sand fleas in the surf lie you just have to dig for them. Dan’s Tackle box, Ice House bait and Tackle and Fenwick Tackle have clam. Assateague is heating up for big black drum and the incoming tide has seen the best action. So far that action has been slow in Delaware but will most likely pick up over the weekend. I expect we will see more catches since there will be many more people fishing this holiday weekend.
I will put up a more detailed report later, its early and we are about to get boots in sand and rats on land. Have a great weekend!
Fish On!
