Bull Red Drum Are On The Move
A few nights ago Dave Moore was fishing Maryland and landed three bull red drum. That is good news, they are a little early according to some, but to Dave, right on time. He sent me a few pictures the other night … “I picked up a few reds for the season already, a lot of people don’t think they are here yet.” I’ll be right there was my response, well maybe not right there right now, it was three in the morning.
I didn’t ask where and wouldn’t expect Dave to mention a location. He runs the fishing guide service Shark Whisperer. I highly recommend you look it up and check it out sometime. The man has skills and tags sharks for NOAA’s apex predator program.
The bull reds are starting to show up to the south of us. Once in a while some are caught here but that is rare. We will see the smaller reds in the surf and back bays, may within the slot limit. The Delaware creel limit is 20 to 27 inches and you can keep 5 per angler per day. If you know where to look in the inland bays, the little reds are already here. Look for them tailing in the shallow waters. They will slam a live mullet, and the big bulls have been known to chomp a kingfish.
Fish On!
