Assateague Coastal Trust Brings Wild & Scenic Film Festival Back To The Shore For 9th Year
Delmarva … Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT), the 50 year old environmental non profit that played a significant role in preventing development on Assateague Island in the 1970’s will bring the internationally recognized Wild & Scenic Film Festival back to the Eastern Shore for the 9th consecutive year. Hosting the WSFF at three venues this year, ACT will kick things off with a premier celebration at Seacrets Morley Hall on Thursday, November 14th.

The WSFF focuses on films which both celebrate the splendor of our planet and speak to environmental concerns our Earth faces. Wild & Scenic Film Festival inspires environmental activism and a love for nature–through film. Wild & Scenic shares an urgent call to action, encouraging festival-goers to learn more about what they can do to save our threatened planet.

Billy Weiland, ACT’s Communications Director, says that this year’s lineup stresses the importance of community engagement: “each fall, ACT and our board members convene to review a lineup of films. When we’re building our program, we are carefully choosing films that are relevant to the Eastern Shore and which convey a message that we feel will resonate with our community. Many of the films in this year’s festival spoke to the importance of community engagement in the face of challenging environmental issues. Music, literature, films, and the arts in general, I believe, reside as our most powerful tools to overcoming the social and environmental issues of today’s modern world.”

ACT will also bring the WSFF to the Island Theatre in Chincoteague Island, VA on Saturday, November 16th. The film festival tour will wrap up in Lewes, DE at the Cinema Art Theater on Tuesday, November 19th with a matinee showing on Sunday, November 24th.

You can purchase tickets and find more information about each venue by visiting www.actforbays.org/wsff-2019 or by calling 410-629-1538. This event will help support the work of Assateague Coastal Trust to keep our local waterways Swimmable and Fishable, and our efforts to prevent oil and gas development, and seismic blasting leases from taking place off the coast of Delmarva.
