Well the winds calmed down a bit finally. We are looking at better weather Saturday and Sunday. There are shad at the Indian River Inlet, great fun on light gear. Small spoons or speck rigs work the best. Short striped bass are hitting small lures and sandfleas. Just put a flea on a four to six aught hook and toss the flea into the water. You won’t need weight, tossing a few fleas in with the baited hook is a good idea to “chum” up the striped bass. Lot of fun catching shorts and you will hit the occasional sheepshead. There are kingfish and flounder along the bubble gum beach area at the north marina parking lot side of the rockwall. Lots of small seabass. Short striped bass under the lights at Masseys Landing and some shad.

The beaches have been lots of small catches like spotted hake, perch, kingfish, small weakfish, and short striped bass. croaker and small spot are hitting closer to the Delaware Bay around Naval crossing and farther north. Delaware Bay beaches. They are all hitting fish bites on top and bottom rigs. I like the small hooks on Diamond State Custom Tackle rigs. There are large rays and sharks hitting cut bait but there are also the occasional striped bass lurking around still, whether it be a migratory or residential bass. Of course there is always the obligatory skate and dogfish. We were asked to help do some research on dogfish so we have to have a little gathering to catch a bunch of them one weekend.
The water is holding at a nice temperature even with the flip flopping weather we are having. It is bouncing between sixty seven and seventy one degrees at Masseys Landing. It dropped a few ticks over the past few days from the cool spell. That is good for the inland bay anglers. Crabbing has been picking up enough to run trot lines. Some folks are doing well and the posts are filling up just fine. The flounder action is picking up and kingfish are around the bays as well. The Delaware Bay temperatures are holding nicely. Should be a good weekend and week to fish.
The Offshore action has been hot for the boats working the Washington to Norfolk canyons. Yellowfin, mahi, big eye, white and blue marlin. The shark action has been decent for makos.
Fish On!!
