We want to fish …

I wrote this a few days ago, I have been ridiculously  busy, I am sorry for that …. is what it is … warmer water, fish are showing up more than many know ….  since then there are striped bass showing up in the Delaware River more … don’t get excited they are residents, (the fish) but a few netter friends of mine are seeing more perch and larger striped bass.  Bloodworms are the bait.   Other wise it is get a warm day and hit the water and see what happens … go fish a catch!

Can I get a show of hands from everyone who thinks the winter has just been too damn long?  Last year at this time we were not just fishing, but catching and it was warm!  Granted there are stocked trout to go after up north and perch and crappie bass in our area too, but I want to hit the sand, rocks, rails, and piers for some fun in the sun.   No worries, we will be enjoying the outdoors soon enough, and we have had our fill of the fluffy rain.  The water is still averaging thirty nine degrees, but that has not stopped us from wetting a line here and there to keep the gear in play.  Always good to get in a little practice so to speak.  This weekend was nice and many were out giving it the old college try, but to no avail, and that is just fine.  Fishing is having fun with friends and family, catching is a bonus.  Just being outside was enough for many of us this weekend.  We cleaned Fenwick Island State Park beach on Sunday and removed over one thousand pounds of trash and unnatural debris.  On Friday I had a day off due to the rain, and I did a little exploring to see which beaches need the most attention.  Beach Plum Island is in sad shape and we will hit that this Saturday at 9 a.m.  Please come out and help if you can, kids have been earning hours for school projects by helping.  This also helps create an awareness in our younger generations, hopefully something they will carry into their adult lives.  Rehoboth Beach has banned smoking on the beach, the boardwalk, and the Bandstand …  and we think that is a good thing, tired of seeing people use the beach as an ashtray.  It is a pollution control issue nothing more, so don’t get all excited about losing rights and your freedom.  We like our environment clean.

The SGYAA is having a fundraiser dinner on Wednesday April 2nd at the Ropewalk Oyster house in Fenwick Island.  Tickets are $25 for a buffet dinner, there will be a silent auction, 50/50, door prizes and raffles.  It will be a great time raising money to take kids fishing with their parents this year, and introducing them to the wonders and benefits of fishing..  There will be an orientation soon to sign up for group outings and lessons.  It has been an honor to help with this great organization and if you feel compelled to help out please do so, they are always looking for volunteers and mentors.  They are also accepting donations for the silent auction and in general to help with their efforts.  Forrest Moyer has done a great job getting this organization off the ground.  If you are interested in helping please contact them through the web site www.sgyaa.com or the Facebook page.

I went to Tiefest this weekend and it was amazing.  Nothing like sitting in a room full of some of the best fly fishermen and women, seeing one of if not the best fly anglers do a casting demonstration.  Lefty Kreh, reminded me of when my grandfather taught me how to fly fish.  Lefty has some serious skills and makes it look easy on a whole different level.  The CCAMD put on Tiefest and it was great meeting many of the members.  I have been working diligently to get the CCADE chapter going, we have a board formed, and soon will have the website ready to accept members for the Delaware chapter.  My weekday nights are board meetings and weekends have been beach clean ups.  Somewhere between all of that and the day job I get to fish and sleep on occasion.  It is going to be a busy year, and I am looking forward to working with everyone.  If you ever get a chance go to Tiefest next year you will not be disappointed.  This past week has been a whirlwind, I could spend hours telling you about everything we have planned, but I will wait.  Mostly because I don’t have the time right now … the bed is calling.

Fish On!!
