Just a heads up to boaters, particularly pontoon boats. Stop going through the Indian River Inlet. This pontoon made it but it was close, very close. TC Dean sent us this video of the this pontoon slamming into the breakers.

If you don’t time those waves just right, This will happen to your boat or pontoon. These people are lucky they didn’t completely submerge their pontoon boat. I know there are triple toons that can handle this, but only due to the ability of speed. Still not a good idea. They aren’t built for those kind of conditions.

Back in the day ( early 80’s) some folks went through the inlet in a pontoon … “They were doing fine until they hit that first wave. Then both the pontoons shot out from behind the boat. They had broken off. The top did mange to motor across the two last waves then it sank. The motor was still attached to the frame like a raft. We went and plucked them out of the water”. … retied DNREC fish and wildlife officer.
