Sports, Who is this guy?

Growing up in North Wilmington, I was always involved in some kind of sports program. I started playing baseball at age seven and continue to play the game I love. I’m going into my Forty-First Season and I still get excited whenever I take the field. So what makes me think I should write for a Sports section in an upstart Newspaper? My answer is I really think it comes down to my passion for all sports. Even though baseball was my first love, I still think the most exciting sport to watch is Hockey. Growing up during the Broad Street Bullies heyday was an experience. Clarke, Schultz, the Watson brothers and the best goalie I’ve ever seen, Bernie Parent. Man, some of those games were brutal but memorable for a six year old kid. Football and the Eagles came shortly after the start of Hockey Season. I had a hard time watching the Eagles in the seventies because they were terrible and Delaware never had their own team. While attending a Sports Banquet, I had the opportunity to meet Randy White from the Dallas Cowboys. I was given a trophy and a 5×7 picture of this “man beast” that graduated from McKean High School. He became my first Sports hero and started my love for the Dallas Cowboys. This hasn’t always been easy in a “Philadelphia first” community. I was never a popular kid during Football Season but I still admired other players in the game. I went on to play Basketball, Street Hockey and everything else a North Graylyn Crest kid could get into. Still, I always came back to my first true love, Baseball. So, I guess this should qualify me to listen to you the reader about what you want me to talk about. I love all sports and can hold a conversation with anyone about any sport. You love wakeboarding? No problem! Tennis, I got you covered during Wimbledon. Water Polo, well maybe you are on your own, but I’d be willing to learn! Come grow with me during this exciting time for Delaware Surf Fishing and together, we are going to have a lot of fun.
