Route 1 Is A Little Sandy Monday Morning

Low tide in Delaware Seashore State Park

The winds have been pushing sand onto route 1 all night below the Charles W Cullen bridge in the northbound lane. There is a breach area that the last storm surge broke through the dunes two weeks ago, mostly wind and some water.
Since then any easterly heavy winds are pushing sand onto the highway. Deldot is clearing the sand and Watershed Stewardship is reinforcing the dunes. This issue shows how well fences and dune grass work to keep sand in place, when it is present. This area will continue to allow sand to be pushed onto the highway during an easterly blow

The water will lay down later this week, right now we are at dead low tide and still windy. The water is pushing up onto the beaches from wind and surge. As the day progresses that will lay down a ittle but not much. There are short striped bass and blue fish in that heavy wash. Good day to get out and fish. Beach combing will be killer at the next few low tides. Be careful driving on the beaches at high tide this afternoon around 3 PM.
