Pompano caught in the surf

The surf is seeing a new catch this week.  Pompano showed up the other day caught on Fishbites.  Flounder, kingfish, weakfish, spot, croaker, skates, and cownose rays are abundant.  The surf has been hit or miss on fishing, the best tide has been the incoming (for the most part).  Some nice blues were caught at the point yesterday on mullet rigs.  Massey’s Landing is seeing a variety of fish.  Large puppy drum, small sea bass, big croaker, and huge spot.  Old grounds still hot and heavy for good sized flounder minnows or jigging Gulp.  A few keeper striped bass are being pulled from the Indian River Inlet on sandfleas, flounder are abundant as well mostly smaller flatties on spot for bait.  A few large pupp drum and sheepshead on sandfleas at IRI as well.  Fishbites and bloodworms are working great in the surf for all the summer time fish (croaker, kingfish, and spot), mullet or cut bait for the bluefish and flounder.  Roosevelt inlet is seeing lots of croaker and spot.  Cape Henlopen pier has been heavy with the same, small summer fish and a few flounder.  Weakfish are popping up in spike to keeper sizes everywhere .  Sorry this is so short.  First report I ever did on my phone, and probably the last.  Typing is not easy on this tiny keyboard.  I will have a booth at Pot Nets Bayside in Long Neck Delaware for the Labor day celebration on Sunday.  Today I am at the Long Neck farmer’s market until noonish.  We are raffling a surf rod and reel ($300 retail value) you do not have to be present to win, hope to see you out there.  I will have a much more detailed report up later today with pictures.
