People been seeing osprey arrive all over Sussex county this past week. Usually I get to see at least one as soon as they start showing up and then I am happy. Today I saw my first three and am loving it. That chirp. When you hear that sound and you are fishing. You know there is at least something around to catch.

Unless ….. The osprey flies a mile offshore and comes back with a fish. Just looking a you all wide eyed and “knowing” like they do and chirping to his buddies about his catch. Because that osprey knows all too well there is a fine line between surf fishing and just standing there on the edge of the Atlantic ocean looking like and idiot.

Glad to see the kids back in town, it is early but welcome. Same for all of you choking up route 1 today. Enjoy the weekend, false spring may actually be real spring. The peepers are deafening now in the vernal pool. The ocean is still cold at forty two degrees, but the inland bays have hit fifty one degrees in Masseys ditch this afternoon. The short bass will be feeding heavier, and so will these osprey. Hope they know about the new circle hook regulations for striped bass.
Last year we watched an osprey pair pick up nesting material all morning on Easter.
