Northern Puffers Are Biting
(April 25, 2020) … The southern ocean beaches roughly Keybox to Fenwick Island are alive with northern puffer fish. Andre just got this beauty on Fishbites and a DS Cutom Tackle top and bottom rig. Local tackle made in the USA.
There have been random bluefish here and there upwards of thirty inches, on all the beaches, that is just starting up. Mostly the snapper size which are perfect for eating and using the leftovers for crab pot bait.
The southern beaches have bluer water than Cape Henlopen State Park, and that changes with wind conditions.
Mullet rigs ate working well for bluefish when they are around. The northern puffers are hitting clam, squid, and fishbites. Most flavors are working.
If you see some bunker moving along the beaches cast to the back of the schools to find blues or bass following them. Fish near where the cormorants pulled out of the water watch the ospreys for fish clues.
