Hurricane Relief for Caye Caulker, Belize
Hurricane Relief for Caye Caulker, Belize

It’s hardly a secret that Caye Caulker, Belize has become an honorary second home to many of us at SEALEG. This laid back, picturesque island sits about forty minutes offshore of mainland Belize and is a haven for divers, eclectic tourists, sun soaked ex-pats, and some of the finest, friendliest locals anywhere in the Americas. On Caye Caulker, “go slow” is more than just the island motto, it’s an infectious way of life.
Earlier this week, Hurricane Earl roared across Caye Caulker causing extensive damage. Hurricane Earl, while small on the Saffir-Simpson Scale, packed powerful winds and a substantial storm surge that devastated parts of the island. At the time of writing, access to power and water is intermittent or non-existent. Water taxi service has been interrupted due to the loss of both piers, dramatically impacting access to sorely needed services and supplies. Many homes and businesses, including those of our friends, have been severely damaged or wiped out entirely.

Today through the end-of-business on Monday, August 8th, SEALEG will be collecting a wide range of relief and recovery supplies for our friends on Caye Caulker. Please drop your donation off at Delaware Distilling Company, 18693 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
