It is that time of year.  Another great white pup weighing around one hundred and thirty pounds was caught near B buoy over the weekend.  The head boat Pirate King from Anglers Fishing Center was out fishing B buoy when they hooked up with the great white.   Will Mace from Forest Hills Maryland was the angler who hooked up fishing with  Amanda’s crew from Maryland, and first mates Joel Robinson and Tanner Virden.  Captain Chris Ragni (big Chris) said it was a catch of a lifetime, not everyday you hook up a great white shark.  “I am feeling blessed to have caught this incredible fish, Yahoo!  Thanks to my mates Joel Robinson and Tanner Virden.”  The shark was released with no harm, they are federally protected.  There has bee a lot of shark action already this year.  That is the third great white I have heard of caught off shore, all small pups like this but great whites none the less.  Not like it is a big deal and you should run for the hills or take your children out of the water.  Just cool to see so many pups in this area.  Maybe they know it is “Jaws” birthday on the 20th of June (today).  Granted we see Mary Lee a lot online, but it is the ones you don’t see that make you wonder.  People always freak out when they see or hear great white.  If you don’t hear theme music you will be fine.

One thing the sharks are always doing is hunting, but sometimes they are also cherry picking.  Offshore the shark action has been picking up and they are feeding on anything they can, including angler’s catches on the retrieve.  Lot of flounder have been chomped into pieces or shredded by the time they were landed.  Not much you can do about that, just have to hope you can reel faster than the shark can eat.  They see that fish in distress, and decide to help any way they can, including having an easy meal.  Food competition can be a real bear, especially for the prey.  That is like throwing you from the frying pan to the fire.

Despite the sharks hammering your catches the fishing is getting better in the old grounds.  Which would explain all the sharks hanging out.

Fish On!!
