Gordons Pond Trail on Cape Henlopen closed temporarily Tuesday, June 30 for mosquito control spraying

LEWES (June 29, 2015) – DNREC’s Mosquito Control Section plans to spray insecticide for mosquito larvae Tuesday morning within Cape Henlopen State Park, Delaware Seashore State Park and Fenwick Island State Park, weather permitting, which will necessitate the temporary closure of the Gordons Pond Trail adjacent to the state parks from 6 – 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Mosquito Control’s insecticide application by helicopter will target mosquito larvae along coastal areas in wetland habitats. All insecticides to be used are registered with the USEPA for mosquito control and will be applied according to USEPA-approved label instructions. The USEPA has determined that these insecticides as properly used do not pose unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife, or the environment.
