Fishing with Bob Jones
I would like to welcome Bob Jones as a writer for Delaware Surf Fishing. Bob will be bringing his years of experience to the site now with all kinds of fishing tips and techniques. I asked Bob to send us a quick introduction …
To say that Bob Jones has spent the majority of his life enjoying the outdoors would certainly be an understatement. As a youngster, his favorite activities were fishing, hunting and trapping with his dad. The connection to the marshes, woodlands and waterways established during childhood, eventually led to a diverse career in the outdoors that included waterfowl guide, USCG-licensed charter boat captain, fur trapper, commercial crabber and natural resources educator.
Bob also developed the ability to share his love of the outdoors through his wildlife paintings and outdoor photography, with credits including national Christmas card designs for Ducks Unlimited and the National Wildlife Federation, Delaware’s 1978 Trout Stamp, cover art for numerous issues of the Delaware Conservationist Magazine, illustrations for several books on hunting and fishing, and inclusion in private and public collections.
His involvement with outdoor writing started with the submission of an article on Delaware pond fishing to The Fisherman. More pieces on local fishing followed and before long, Bob was writing for several newspapers and a variety of regional and national outdoor magazines including the NRA’s American Hunter, Game and Fish Magazine, Fur Fish and Game, Big Game Fishing Journal, Delaware State News and the News Journal. He also covered local hunting and fishing topics as Delaware State Editor for Outdoor Life, and Freshwater Field Editor for the Delmarva edition of The Fisherman. Bob has been a member of the Outdoor Writer’s Association of America for more than 30 years.
But, despite the satisfaction that has come with a life spent enjoying and sharing his outdoor experiences, Bob’s greatest pleasure is the time spent hunting and fishing with his daughter as she was growing up, and the knowledge that those experiences were the foundation for her love of the outdoors she now has as an adult.
Thanks Bob, we are looking forward to your articles.
