Fast Wave Action Is Forming The Beach Cliffs

These beach cliffs or ledges formed in 2019 from the same surf conditions

(August 15, 2021) …The waves pounding the coastline are creating the sand cliffs of Delaware Beaches. Just be careful parking near these. If these collapse you can get really stuck. Back up to the a little beyond the last wrack line.
This is happening along most of the beaches, and just started in Fenwick Island State Park. The stumps at Navy crossing will be exposed too

DO NOT drive along these that is one way to get a free car wash you don’t need. The beaches will flatten out again once things calm down.

The tide is still incoming, and this will continue for a few more hours. Northeast wave action and higher surf does this every time. We usually only see this in the fall and winter with nor’easters.
A few years ago on August 24, 2019 the same directional waves and high surf really dropped the beach to almost 6 feet in some areas. All Beaches Have A Steep Ledge From High Surf Conditions
