Red drum caught on fishbites in the surf by Jamey Bowers at Cape Henlopen state park

Brrrrrrrr, it is as cold in Florida as it is in Delaware, go figure.  At least the water is warm!  We are hunting lionfish and getting ready for DEMA, the Dive Equipment Manufacturing Association convention.  Meanwhile you all are seeing some decent fish up north.  Bluefish are still hitting like mad in the surf, but in some areas they are a little bigger than the eight inch bait stealers.  The blues are all over the inland bays and Delaware bays.   There have been some decent sized red drum in the surf, all in the slot range, but a few above twenty seven inches.  Would be cool to catch a bull from the surf in Delaware.  Jamey Bowers got a nice twenty seven inch red drum on fish bites on a top and bottom rig.  There are lots of small black drum in the surf just not much size to them.

Albies are still around and as far up as mid to north Jersey so that action will continue for a while. Striped bass are hitting up there and down here as well.  The fall run is starting to get underway. Resident bass are feeding heavily, and the migratory schools up north are starting to move south, slowly, following all of the bait.  The water temperature this morning in the surf, Delaware Bay. Ocean City Inlet and Atlantic city is sixty three degrees.  Delaware city is also sixty three degrees in the Delaware River, and around fifty nine degrees near Trenton.  The water has been cooling off slowly.  Masseys Landing is around sixty five degrees this morning, and dropped to fifty nine degrees for two days a few days ago.

Tautog action has been great at the walls and bay structure for most anglers.  Lot of throw backs, but some pretty large fish have been caught.  Sheepshead and triggers are still in the mix on the structure.  Should be better weather temperature wise for the next few days, just chilly in the mornings.
