Hurricane Jose breached the dune this morning and closed route 1. This was in combination with bay water flooding the southbound lane first, then the dune breached and closed the entire highway. The breach is a couple hundred yards south of the drive on access at Conquest beach. The area where water has been washing in and flattening the beach. Del Dot closed roue 1, but is expecting it to reopen once the water recedes. Tony Pratt’s crew is going to close the breach at low tide and then monitor it for the next high tide. This will happen around 9 PM and is expected to be worse than this morning’s high tide. We will keep you posted of any changes and closures.

The back bay areas are fine and so far only flooding in Oak Orchard at River road and Chief’s road. The access through the field is open for residents only. Route 24 is backed up heavily due to detoured traffic, it is n’t going to get any better anytime sooner either. Be safe and smart out there. Driving through saltwater is bad for your vehicle.
