Delaware Weekend Weather Outlook
Weekend Weather Outlook Whether You Like It Or Not Is Going To Be a Little Nautical
We have been dealing with storm surge from Hurricane Humberto off our coast, wayyyy off our coast. North Carolina was getting the brunt yesterday, we are getting less, but it is still nautical. Small craft advisories and rip current advisories. The waves are supposed to be sick tomorrow according to all the surfers. Next up is Hurricane Jerry and the possibility of storm surge or affects. There are many storms lined up in the Atlantic right now. It is a busy season for tropical storms and hurricanes.
Surf fishing is doable with these heavy waves, you just have to surf fish closer to the beach and hold onto your gear. Surf Anglers will be resetting lines a lot, holding bottom with large weights and sputniks is recommended. I tend to use small claw or pyramid weights that barely hold and let the gear drift a bit then reset my line. The heavier weights hold better obviously, but I like too drift a little in these conditions. The fish are moving may as well move the bait around.
The wash is full of striped bass feeding on sand fleas and confused bait fish. Mullet for the win on mullet rigs or chunks on top and bottom rigs and surf rigs. The bayside of the point and the cape henlopen fishing pier is the calmest place to fish and the Delaware bay beaches.
As much as I hate wind, I will be hitting the ocean surf for some short bass action or as we call it rat wrangling. If you are tossing plugs and lures, go with white for the color. If you drive the Delaware bay beach at Beach Plum Island State Park mind high tide and that goes for all the beaches. Mid day high tides starting a little after noon
Fish On!
