Car flips into C&D Canal; reckless driving charge for Dover man
GEORGES (Sept. 22, 2015) – DNREC Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers responding to a report Monday afternoon of an overturned vehicle in the C&D Canal found a 2004 Honda Accord that had run off a dirt road, striking a telephone pole then crashing over riprap along the canal banks before ending up partially submerged in the canal. The driver, William E. Ritter, 23, of Dover, managed to get out of the vehicle and walk to a nearby construction site where a 911 call was made for him. Ritter was treated for minor injuries at Christiana Medical Center and released. Natural Resources Police charged him with reckless driving for excessive speed and damaging state property on the C&D Canal Conservation Area. Ritter was released pending a mandatory court appearance.
