Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier Loses A Section

The end of the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier has been closed for several months due to safety concerns with some of the pylons.  The casing has cracked on several pylons.  After evaluation the state has decided to remove a section of the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier.  Originally I was told it would just be the last twenty feet, or two sections, that has changed.  Now the entire end, the newer section that is a smaller width than the pier is being removed.  “We are removing the end of the pier so someone cannot just walk out there, it is a safety concern.”  said a Park’s administrator.   Word on the street is a few people have jumped the fence to fish the end of the pier, which prompted this dismantling.

I hope the state is going to look into building  a new pier or rebuilding this pier. The “T” at the end was a great place to fish.  Time will tell.  Kayakers should be able to fish the soon to be old structure.  I do not know how much of the structure will be left behind.  I hope they at least keep the low fence at the end of the pier so we can cast tot he old structure.  We will keep you posted.
