Biggest Seal I Have Ever Seen
We were walking around the inlet yesterday checking the water and beach out. Tons of birds everywhere, feeding on the rocks. A pair of long tail ducks diving the inlet. Out of the corner of my eye I saw what, if I were in Florida, I would call a manatee. There was this huge brown blob in the center of the inlet just moving along slowly but with determination. It was huge! Like jump in and tackle it huge.
It was a seal, the biggest one I have ever seen. You see the little harps and greys pull up onto the beaches, but this thing was huge. Like sea lion huge. It could have easily been mistaken for a manatee. Except for for two minor details, they live in Florida and it is still way too cold up here. There isn’t anything in the pictures for size reference. It was easily five feet long, as big as an average sized human.
It was slowly just swimming out of the inlet on the end of the incoming tide, like it didn’t have a care in the world. It would roll a few times and then dive and pop up farther out towards the ocean. The last time we saw it pop up it was in the edge of the rip off the north wall and then we didn’t see it anymore.
