Great day to clean up a beach, the weather held off just long enough for us to cover all of Fenwick Island State Park beach. The wind wasn’t off the water, so it was not as cold as yesterday. The wind did manage to cover up the beach, but we still filled a full bag of trash. Thanks for coming out everyone and to Iron Hill Brewery for feeding the crew, excellent food! Next week we clean Beach Plum Island State park, meet at 9 AM.

We always find trash but there are treasures too if you pay attention. I found a sand dollar today just laying on the beach up in the dry sand out of the surf zone or wrack line. Also a few pieces of sea glass and wampum, which I always find. I also found some cool smaller driftwood pieces perfect for projects.

Lynne Larson found the best treasure, a elver or glass eel washed up on the beach still alive. She showed it to us, we took a picture, and put it back in the water. That might be one of the things the fish are feeding on as the glass eels head back to freshwater to mature.
