Will Elsa Blow Or Let Us Go

Hunter Outten at Delmarvawx Discusses Tropical Storm Elsa and what we can expect. Hunter like myself knows it is best to be prepared just in case, but never panic. Storm systems change constantly by the time they get to Delmarva. The question always is how bad or worse? Best to just be prepared in case you actually have to deal with worst. Either way the coast of Delaware is gonna get nautical. Beach combing is guaranteed to be dope! Surf fishing will be challenging all weekend most likely. Depends on how Elsa rolls up the east coast. As of this morning looks like she is going to blow and not let it go.

Hunter …. I highlighted where I believe to be the greatest tornado risk with Elsa just to the east of the center of circulation.

Tropical Storm Elsa Update: 9:15AM ***
Tropical Storm Watches were issued for portions of southern Delmarva at this time until further notice. These watches may expand over the next 24 hours. We did see a slight shift north and west with the track with the center of Elsa coming right over Delmarva.

Wind Impacts: Tropical storm force winds will be likely across portions of southern and central Delmarva. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph at times bringing some tree limbs down and scattered power outages.

Rainfall: With some of the guidance, we should be seeing Flood Watch products either later this afternoon or Thursday morning. Latest guidance suggesting rainfall amounts ranging from 2 to 4 inches.

Tornado: I’ve highlighted where I believe to be the greatest tornado risk with Elsa just to the east of the center of circulation. There is some very impressive looped hodographs, instability, and shear in that right front quadrant. The biggest concern is the timing of that strong rain band will be in the overnight hours where the tornado threat is greatest. So be prepared to keep your phone volumes up and turn on those weather radios in preparation.

Timing: The outer rain bands of Elsa should begin impacting the region in the mid afternoon hours Thursday. Greatest impact will occur in the overnight hours and by mid morning, Elsa should be zipping past the region into New England.

Thank you for reading and as always…
Keep Weather Aware.
