Why is it nice out and flooding?

Offshore Storms Will Cause Coastal Flooding From Storm Surge, Full Moon Tides, and Wind

This has been the question of the day. The storm off the coast is the reason. It is pretty big, it has stalled, and is pushing water as storm surge, with sustained winds. If you look off the coast you can see clouds in “bands”. The full moon tides are not helping as well as that wind.

Long Neck Road flooded at high tide this morning below Mariners Cove … Bill McGee

Normally with Nor’easeters we have tons of rain and all that jazz. Be glad this is off the coast and not sitting on top of us because then it would be worse. Facebook will be flooded with high water pictures today, tomorrow , and Sunday.

Expect the next few high tide cycles to be worse than you saw this morning. Ocean City is flooded down town. Savannah road flooded in Lewes below the drawbridge. Long Neck road flooded below Mariners Cove. All the normal spots that flood with heavy tidal flooding. The water came in fast and not much of it will drain at low tide. Then another high tide will push in more water. Just look at any of the beaches at low tide, it will look like high tide. That is a good indicator of why we are having heavy tidal flooding, with storm surge and full moon tide influences.

Think of this like a snow day, except the recommended supplies are margaritas and tacos! Seriously if you don’t have to go anywhere and are flooded out stay out of the water. It is really bad for your vehicles “rusty” parts and electronics. I watched a guy drive his vehicle through three feet of water in Oak Orchard one year. It stalled out, he had to be rescued, and then the insurance company bought him a new vehicle.
