The winds today were steady and annoying in the surf, water was stirred up with sand, much different from the crystal clear water the past few days. It will clear up in a day or as soon as the winds lay down. We saw some blues move past early in the morning, but after that it was hard to see anything. The beaches are still really washed over and the swales are shifting and filling up with a lot of water at high tide. All and all it was still a day at the beach. We were using frozen mullet, peanut bunker, and clam. We fed many a fish but they were too small to take the hook, we figure they were the tiny blues. We were in Delaware Seashore State Park on Conquest beach. The other beaches the past few days have seen decent bluefish action and some albies hitting the surf randomly. There have been some flounder still around, and short striped bass. I am sure there are still kingfish out there but haven’t caught any or seen any.

The tautog action the past few days was hot at the walls and haystacks. Yesterday the haystacks were quieter than the walls, but there was action. We hit a couple of short tautog and a few toads. Bill Dorey sent me a message and picture of a hug e tautog, You’re in the wrong spot … he was crushing them. I had posted a picture of a haystack on my personal Facebook page and everyone was commenting, it got rather comical. Green crabs are still a unicorn in these here parts, some shops should have some by tomorrow, check the bait shop business directory for a shop near you. Sand fleas are working well, unless you can catch fiddler, or calico crabs. The wreck sites and reef sites are doing well for tautog. Most of the charters went out for sea bass yesterday on opening day and did well. The Delaware Bay water temperature has been averaging sixty degrees the last few days. It was bit choppy yesterday but the ride was really nice on the way out. We left at low tide and waited for the incoming to see if the fishing would turn on like it had been the day before. Some days it is just as good and other days it is not, yesterday was the latter. It happens, and is why we call it fishing, not catching. You should have been here yesterday was said more than once to me yesterday. I was just glad to be out on a boat on a beautiful day.

Masseys landing is back up to sixty one degrees on average and only fluctuating a couple degrees between tides. The surf was chilly today at sixty degrees, and the of course that wind was a tad chilly until the sun hit high noon. This evening it has laid down and is much better. The rest of the weekend should be decent during the day with mild winds out of the Southeast. The air temperatures will be a little cooler than this past week. High tide Saturday is at 6 AM at Indian River Inlet and the low is around noon. Should be a good weekend in the surf and surrounding waters. We will see you at the Sea Witch parade tomorrow and then hit the beach.
Fish on!!
