Every year the point closes on March 1st and reopens on September first. This year it was opened a day early which was fun last evening since no one knew it was open. Today I dropped by the point to do a little fishing. It is still there in case you were wondering but certainly looks a little different. It was high tide when I arrived. I ran into Alex on my way in he said he caught a few kingfish and the guys I ran into hit a few snapper blues on mullet rigs. There were a few fish breaking water, dolphins 20 feet off the point and sturgeon jumping off shore near the outer wall. We saw a huge Air Force plane do a fly by, very low to the ground.

There were many vehicles out there and half the people I talked to blew off work to fish the point today. We saw the Kalmar Nyckel float by the outer wall on its way back to port next to the Cape May Lewes Ferry. Charter and head boats passing by and the pilot boat out of Lewes. There is always a lot of action off the point, not just fish.
The point’s opening day is like a holiday for many anglers. The point looks a little different this year. There is a dent or cove between the ocean side beach and the bay side beach.

In fact it looks like we have two points now. I am not sure how it will look at low tide, but I am looking forward to checking that out tomorrow. Every year the point changes shape a little bit and this year it seems to have changed shape a little more drastically. There is not a lot of trash on the beach but it could certainly use a good clean up and we will start up the beach cleanups in a couple of weeks. Most likely we will start with the point. There is still a small section closed for Seabeach Amaranth and a small section on your drive in but does not inhibit passage to the point.

Fish On!!
