The Murderkill River Claims A Bowers Beach Icon
Earlier today Frenchies, the structure next to the coast guard station at Bowers Beach dropped into the Murderkill River. The weight of the building collapsed the pylons and Frenchies fell into the water.

Frenchies is an icon of not only Bowers Beach but the Delaware Bay. That building has been there for a long time. Back in the days of the trout runs and well before that. I don’t know a lot of the history of Frenchies, but I know many people that have stories.
The look of the building is that of the days of old on the water. It is one of the buildings that gives Bowers beach its character. I imagine this will be a total loss and no idea of any plans to rebuild.
Frenchies has the been the subject of many a photographer and painter over the years.
