The Bayside Of The Point Is Closed “That’s Okay I Am Local” Is Not The Correct Response
For some reason, every year, when the point opens in Cape Henlopen State Park lots of people start walking through the closed bay section. Usually they come from the point comfort station lookout area. Today was a first to have them tell people it is okay we are local. Ummmm no, no it is not okay and being a “local” you should know better.
The ranger’s number for these issues is … Delaware State Parks Rangers Emergency/Dispatch (302) 739-4580. There is also a new app you can use DENRP app. People have been messaging us this morning and yesterday for these numbers. Please stay out of the dunes and the closed sections. Those poles are not there for decoration.

DNREC … ” The bayside closure remains in effect until October 1 for use by shorebirds migrating south for the winter. Piping plovers migrate to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States; least terns migrate to coastal areas of South America and Central America; oyster catchers typically migrate to the Florida coast and Gulf of Mexico.”
