The Bar Arcade on Route 1 You have To Check Out

The Hideout Arcade Bar and Grill the newest hangout on Route 1 is a step back in time

Forty two and a half years ago, I was nine years old and Star Wars premiered. I stayed in the theatre and watched it twice, back to back. Now that one is the the fourth in a series of an epic saga that ended last night. It was a perfect ending, I won’t ruin that for you. What really made the night … going to the Hideout Arcade Bar and Grill, Route 1’s newest hang out, a bar arcade. I felt like a kid again going to Star Wars for the first time, well minus the bar experience at nine years old.

Greeted by this six foot plus Storm Trooper

We walked into the Hideout arcade bar and grille and were greeted by a six foot plus storm trooper. “Aren’t you a little short for a storm trooper“, said by Princess Leia in the first Star Wars, immediately popped in my head. There are neon lights, Star Wars pictures, old school 80’s and 90’s pictures and memorabilia, it was like going back in time. In an hour we would watch the end of the Star Wars saga, preceded by a bar arcade full of my childhood. What an amazing night.

Mike, our bartender greeted us and was incredibly helpful. The bar top is covered with pictures of the old video games we played when we were kids. There are a half a dozen TV’s for watching the sports. The walls are covered with memorabilia. A life size Barbie high back princess chair (throne) sits in the corner. “That is for the ladies who order our Barbie themed drink to take pictures for social media.” To the right of the Barbie chair is a Star Wars video game and a full size poster of Han Solo in carbonite. There is a stack of Rubik’s cubes on a windowsill. People at a table behind us were playing Simon.

The video game room at the Hideout Arcade Bar and Grill

We checked out the video game area real quick, we were in a hurry due to the Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker premiere in an hour. From our bar stools we got the “tour”. “We have the area of old school video games and a pool table downstairs. All of the TV’s at each high top table in the bar have Sega, and Atari video game consoles hooked up to play a variety of video games.” I was like a kid in a candy store, any other movie and I probably would have blown it off to hang out for the night. If you are taking your kids to the Midway Theaters you now have a place to relax, or play, while you wait.

The video games are the old school games we all played back in the day; Asteroids, Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, Frogger, and many more. A few pinball machines, for that pinball wizard in your life. If you are king of the silverball you will enjoy the pinball machines. Everything works with tokens, you can get forty tokens for ten bucks. Every drink at the bar comes with two free tokens.

The food was excellent, came out real quick and then we were off to the movies. We told Mike we will be back in a couple of hours. He said “I would love to see you guys later, I don’t want to know a thing about the movie, just promise me that.” No worries buddy we aren’t going to ruin that for you. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him what happened to Baby Yoda in the latest Mandalorian on Disney Plus. That aired early (Wednesday) due the premier of Star Wars, The Rise Of Skywalker on Friday. Spoiler alert … the saga ends where it began. They took the old combined it with the new and nailed it! If you are a fan of Star Wars you will be pleased and for the win check out the Hideout Arcade Bar and Grill for a step back in time. The combination is perfect to pregame any movie at The Moves at Midawy or stop by after.
