There are areas in Cape Henlopen State Park closed for your safety
The other day a few friends were photographing the sunrise like they do every morning. When they looked over at the bunker at Herring Point, and noticed there was some guy standing on top of it. “Excuse me sir you aren’t supposed to be up there it is closed for a reason”. His response was it is not a big deal I’m just taking a picture.
THIS. This is how we lose constant access to parks and amenities. Before you call this tool an out of state touron, the guy had Delaware tags. Local? Just moved here? Does it really matter? Did you really get a better shot that much higher than the dune that is already fifty feet off the beach?

The self entitled attitude, I will do whatever I want, is killing it for those that follow rules and want to enjoy the parks. Now if that guy only knew how easily he could have fallen through a roof to his most likely death. Maybe he would not have climbed up there. If you have been to the restored bunker you will notice the ceiling is well above your head. The really sad part is had he hurt himself in this process eh would be the first to want to sue the parks for his own stupidity.
People are destructive and unfortunately their actions ruin it for others. Just like the people doing donuts in the drive on beach access parking lots. That costs money to fix and causes parks to close these lots that used to be open. If things like this continue we won’t have the access we have now in several areas. Many of us pay a lot of money to have that access, our money is used to maintain these parks. If you can’t respect the parks, stay out of them.
