One day they will lower as much as they have risen. Not in our lifetime, or your great grand kids, or even their great grand kinds, but it is an ongoing cycle. The sea level in our area in the last hundred years has risen nearly eighteen inches.
Twenty-five thousand years ago you could walk to the canyons that every offshore angler fishes today. The Wilmington canyon was carved by the ancient Delaware River.

That all being said, there is a neat, very useful digital tool by NOAA to see just how much sea level rise would effect the existing land masses today. This is a great tool to use if you are looking at buying land near any coast line. NOAA’s Sea Level Rise Viewer. You can also use this to get an idea of what two feet of storm surge or extra water could affect, or flood an area during severe storms.

The Sea Level Rise Viewer is a small part of NOAA’s Office Of Coastal Management, that hosts a myriad of digital coast tools. These can be used for information, studies, and just general factual information on all kinds of subjects. Now you can stop listening to social media and find some real facts with these tools.
The Sea Level rise viewer is easy to use and rather self explanatory. It literally works like google maps. Just open the link, click get started, and put in an address or geographical area in the USA. It is that simple. The use the slide on the left to set a new sea level, up to ten feet can be viewed. There are a few other features you will enjoy. It is actually kind of fun and scary to set the meter to ten feet.
