Masseys Ditch Shoal Before The Dredge Project
Masseys Ditch Dredge Project is Scheduled To Start In January
These “before” photos taken today by Driscoll Drones shows just how much sand is in the shoal along the outside of Masseys Ditch. That is a lot of sand and according to the map I don’t think all of that will be removed. Making one wonder if it won’t take too long to fill back in with sand and silt.
The canal for the Masseys Community on the side of Masseys Ditch is really filled in with sand at the entrance.
That community should have piggy backed on this project to get that cleaned out. That build up is probably the only thing keeping that point from being sheared off during heavy storms and dropping the house on the point into the ditch.
According to the DNREC press releases, equipment is being mobilized to start the Masseys Ditch Dredge Project and set up to dredge by January 6th to February 26th. They have to finish by February 28th due to EPA regulations for dredging in waterways. That is going to be a huge project, hopefully it can be done in time without too may storms to delay the work. It is going to get right cold here soon enough. Crews will be working twenty four hours a day.
