Alan Battista … The ticket was trolling over drop offs. They were sitting on the top, not so much on the bottom. Running the Chesapeake Rig between 60 – 75′ back (20-25′ deep) was the most productive

If you are looking for a last-minute gift for that angler or kayaker on your list this year.  You need to check out the  book Light Tackle Kayak Trolling The Chesapeake Bay by  Alan Battista a member of the Torqeedo Fishing Team and  Kokatat Fishing Team.  It is a very easy read even for the non angler, touching on tips, tricks, and  techniques.  One hundred and sixty pages packed full of information that not only is very helpful for the Chesapeake Bay but for anyone wanting to learn more about kayak fishing in any situation.  Alan Battista compliments his book with his Facebook page sharing a lot of information with followers.  He is constantly working to improve his kayak fishing, and the page is a fun way to keep up with new information.  Did I mention he fishes like a madman?  He certainly has some skills angling the bay.  He recently started making rigs that he has great success with trolling from the kayak in the Chesapeake bay.  I think I have read this book a baker’s dozen times or more.  I like to pick it up and just brush up on some ideas for kayak fishing and it is so informative I tend to pick up on something I didn’t the first time reading.  Don’t tell Alan but it is one of the books that lives in a convenient place to do some light reading.

In the book he covers equipment needed and some options that many would not think necessary or even practical for a kayak.  From electric motors and the perfect seat, to rod holders and gear, he covers everything you can imagine.  Much of this advice and knowledge can be applied to any kayak angling situation.  He takes the been-there-done-that approach and will save you from the headaches of trying new techniques and gear.  Chart suggestions for plotters and selecting the best places to kayak fish are a must and his advice in that area is spot on.  This book will certainly help you become a better kayak angler.  You could even apply some of his techniques to boat fishing.  If you are looking  to purchase the book it retails for 18.99 and $2.00 in shipping if you order it through him on the Facebook page and he will send you a signed copy.  You also will be able to purchase one at expositions when he is giving a talk.  He will be doing a seminar next month (January 16th) at the 7th Annual MSSA Fishing Expo in Frederick, MD.   That would be a great time to meet Alan Battista and get a copy of his book, Light Tackle Kayak Trolling the Chesapeake Bay.
