Jersey Shipwreck Washes Up on Delaware Beach

Attention boaters and beach goers be on the look out for debris.

(May 27, 2020) … Chris Carnley was surf fishing today at Fenwick Island State Park, when a piece of the F/V Bay Of Isles washed up on the beach. “I tried to pull it out of the water, but it was just too heavy. I did manage to pull the name plate off the wreckage.” On May 6, 2020 the 53′ F/V Bay Of Isles, a wooden trawler hit the Old South Jetty at the north end of Long Beach Island. Looking at pictures of the wreck it appears he found one of the sides with the name plate.

Fishermen’s Headquarters put this alert out on May 7th … “Notice To Mariners: Hazards exist in the Barnegat Inlet Area, Navigate With Extreme Caution! – Large wood debris is scattered across the area due to the shipwreck of the Bay Of Isles. It wrecked on the south side of the Barnegat Inlet Jetty. Debris was reported along the beaches of LBI, the inshore waters as well as the Barnegat Inlet and in numerous locations of the bay and main thoroughfares of Double Creek and Oyster Creek.” You can read the full article here.

As far as we have been able to find with a little research, the vessel broke up and now pieces are washing up on beaches. Keep an eye out for any pieces in the wash, these can be a hazard. Boaters, you certainly don’t want to ram a piece, keep an eye out front.
