Boots with a nice fat short striped bass from the Indian River Bay

The surf was fifty one degrees at two in the afternoon today and forty six degrees in the morning around dawn.  These temperatures are perfect for striped bass, but instead they are offshore feeding on bait a good five miles out.  where we can’t fish for them.  Stay out of the EEZ it is being watched heavily not worth the ticket.  They are being watched by the coast guard and local enforcement from New Jersey to Maryland.  There are drones in the air on occasion.

There are lots of bait slicks in front of the beaches and some have birds working them. Lot of boats fishing the end of the northern jetty at Indian river inlet.

Short striped bass action is good around the inland bays on both tides, and better at the inlet on the outgoing tide.  Night time is always the right time for larger bass action.  Shorts will bite all day long, but the larger bass will be deeper.

Sea bass action is good as well as tautog on ocean structure.  The water is nice and calm just a bit chilly out there, especially the mornings.
perfect striped bass weather, but again no fishy fishy here yet close to shore.  The westerly blow didn’t help either.

Conquest Beach on Wednesday Thanksgiving eve

The water is clearing up nicely, clarity at the inlet was three feet today.  The surf is turning bluer with just a fringe of stirred up sand in the wash.  Calm waves too, so holding bottom and casting is easy, catching not so much.  Occasional short bass and small blues, but
mostly skates and dogfish all hitting bunker chunks or cut bait.

Have a great Thanksgiving and weekend.  Stay safe and be smart on the water. The temperatures are no joke this time of year.
