Friday Beach Conditions Route 1 Is Getting Wet
Water is to the dune lines this morning at high tide and route 1 is flooding a little.
Nor’easter conditions persist today and water is to the dunes on all beaches. Deldot is keeping an eye on the Faithful Steward crossing area, that spot breaches on occasion. Lewes canal is full and overflowing into the marshes. Savannah road is going to get wet. The Indian River Inlet south campground is surrounded by water. Expect it to get a bit worse before it gets better. The storm has stalled, which will keep these conditions longer than expected. Oak Orchard is flooding quickly. Piers are already under two feet of water. I don’t think the back bays saw much of a low tide last night.

Route 1 is flooding on the southside below the bridge from the inland bays. Below Dewey there is a little water along the shoulder of route 1 and the inland bay parking areas are completely full. High tide for the back bay communities is still two hours away. The inland bays are full of water from the last high tide and still filling with water. Up north route 9 is flooding in many places. None of this is a surprise, the issue is how much will flood and for how long.
With these bigger swells and heavy winds we are seeing more water. Today is the worst that has been predicted, tomorrow will be a little less but not much better. Each high tide cycle will be an issue into Sunday. More water means just that, more water, it has to go somewhere. Some of the inland bay communities last night had over a foot of water in the low areas. Expect Long Neck road to flood at the White House beach slough around 9 to 10 AM.

These conditions are typical for a nor’easter we just feel it is important that you know what is going on and what to expect. None of these storms are ever the same but they create the same issues, flooding. How much water we see is always the question. Even on the nice days with heavy surge and wind we can get a lot of flood water. When the drones go up later this morning we will know just how bad the inland bays are getting flooded. This summer we had these conditions for a day and they carved the beaches out on a nice sunny day. The weather doesn’t have to be bad for a offshore storm to create nor’easter conditions.
Don’t drive through the water if you can avoid it, saltwater is bad for your vehicle. Just ask the Jeep owner in Myrtle beach. Tuesday it will start to lay down more. We have been dealing with high water for so long it would be nice to see a real low tide for once. Beach combing is going to be sick. You can fish the rough waves just watch yourself. Getting swept off your feet is dangerous, don’t go alone. The wash is a foot plus deep at high tide. Debris is an issue, keep a close eye on incoming waves.
Fish On!
