Drones Being Used To Monitor Closed Beaches And Remind People About Social Distancing
(April 10, 2020) … The other day Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, and Dewey announced they are using drones along trails, streets, and other areas to monitor closed areas like beaches. Some towns are also using drones to remind people about social distancing.
Lewes and Rehoboth drones have a PA system with a message to remind people about social distancing. These are small drones set up with a PA system of sorts on it.
Beach towns are also reminding out of state visitors they need to self quarantine for 14 days, by pulling them over. Some folks have been found in violation for the 14 day quarantine period. I have no idea how they are monitoring these people, and no they are not arresting anyone.
Lewes’s drone message says … “Attention. Per the governor’s orders, all individuals are to practice social distancing while using the trail. You are asked to maintain 6 feet of individuals who are not your immediate family or caretaker. If you have any further questions, please contact the Lewes Police Department. Thank you for your cooperation.”
At some point I would expect to see parks use drone to monitor park activity in closed areas and along the surf fishing beaches. To make sure all are following the new restricted surf fishing access rules.
