DNREC … Wednesday, July 21 is a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Delaware. An approaching cold front will push a dense area of smoke from Canadian wildfires into the state, increasing particle concentrations.
Therefore, despite showers and thunderstorms aiding vertical mixing late in the day, AQI levels will be Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Thursday and Friday, wildfire smoke will gradually decrease across the region. However, periods of light westerly to northwesterly winds will allow some smoke to linger over Delaware. Therefore, AQI levels will be low-Moderate on both days.
