DMS Tournament Fishing Hurricane Mathew

Yesterday and today I am riding with Corby Fulton while he judges the Delaware Mobile Surf Fishing tournament. Yesterday was decent action all day in Delaware Seashore state park. The action up north was slower, but a twenty two inch bluefish was caught at herring point beach and leads the Calcutta. Today all tournament anglers are at Cape Henlopen. The sand is blowing down the beach stripping paint off vehicles. It is crazy out here, but bluefish are hitting one after another and a nice keeper striped bass was hit at thirty five inches this morning by JR Griffith. It definitely looks like striped bass weather.
The results of the tournament after day one from DMS … “After Day #1:Top Overall with 49 points is Carl Koehn – 2nd place is Drew Stuchlik with 45 – 3rd place Ted Chick with 42 points. All 3 scored with 3 fish.Top Woman’s with 30 points is Anita Chandler – 2nd is Amy Ferguson with 22 inch Blue (also lead in Calcutta for top blue at $1860) – 3rd place is Allison Stuart (previous winner traveled from Canada for our annual tourney) with 14 points.Top Youth- best part of what we do! Jace Griffith, age 5 caught a 16.5 inch flounder.”

We will let you know the overall winners at the end of the day today. The winning ceremonies are at 2:30 pm at Cape Henlopen. We shall see how long these folks manage to stay on these beaches, it is blowing a gale out here. Waves are over six feet and coming in fast and hard. The wind is blowing right down the beach.
Fish On!!
