Delaware Memorial Bridge Will Close This Sunday
The heavy lift vessel Zhen Hua 26 is headed to the Port of Philadelphia
Well not for the entire day, but it has to close for this super-post-Panamax crane to safely pass under the twin spans. The ship, Zhen Hua 26, a heavy lift vessel is anchored off Lewes right now, you can see it from the point and the overlook in Cape Henlopen State Park. Not long ago three cranes were taken up the Delaware River in the same fashion.
The Delaware Memorial Bridge closure should occur sometime between 12:45 a.m. and 1:15 a.m. early Sunday. This will delay traffic for about a half an hour so long as the ship is on time. This crane is 189 feet off the water from the top. Low tide conditions will be imperative to help with clearance of the twin spans.
The crane was manufactured by the Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co in China. A super-post-Panamax crane will be installed at the Philadelphis Port’s (PhilaPort) Packer Avenue Marine Terminal. It is wild to see this behemoth pass under the twin spans.
