Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier Opens May 25th

Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier with new deck boards.

The work on the Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier pier for the most part is done.   The crews have the fence up, lights installed, and are removing their trailers and equipment. They just have to do a final punch list of some details and they are done.  Governor Jack Markell will be here Wednesday to cast the first line from the renovated pier around 10 AM and the pier will officially open at noon..  The decking looks great and is solid.   The fishing near the pier has been great, but it will be nice to be able to fish up on the pier and farther out.  Just in time for flounder and even the big blues that are showing up.  Dave Beebe and crew have the bait shop open and are excited to finally be able to cater to the pier anglers.  That is a full line bait and tackle shop and they even rent rods.

Many of us have missed the pier, it has been nearly two seasons without a pier to fish.  Some folks just like to walk out on it and see the sights.  During the busy summer weekends you can hear multiple languages on the pier, it is quite the melting pot.  Looking forward to a summer of late fishing nights on the pier.   I also wonder how long it will take the litterbugs to trash the place, last time it was within an hour.  If you carry it in, you can carry it out and stop tying bags to the rail, the parks do not have someone to come around and collect trash.  That is a myth or rumor I have overheard more than once.  Blows my mind that grown people can’t do something simple like clean up after themselves.
