Big White Marlin Sweeps First at the White Marlin Open

249 boats are fishing today, the last day of the White Marlin Open

It has been a little different following the White Marlin Open this year, but also the same. I usually watch the scales online, I can work and watch at the same time. For those that go to the scales and watch them live that is different this year. There is a large screen at the ballpark for spectators, the scales are closed to the public.
The fishing seems to be a little different this year. Probably a little stirred up due to the “hurricane”.

The latest entry yesterday of a 97 pound white marlin took first place by 22 pounds, that will be very hard to beat with only one day left (Sunday). This is the third largest white marlin in the tournaments history.
It knocked out the top contender at 77 pounds. Boats today will probably concentrate on other species to get into the money. But you never know, someone could catch a large white marlin but that will be a tough number to beat. Watch the White Marlin Open scales live online

White Marlin Open … In the white marlin division, the “Drillin & Billin” out of Hatteras, NC weighed a 77-pound white marlin on Friday to take first place and the $2.9 million that came with being in all the white marlin added entry levels. Within 24 hours, that jackpot was cut in half as the “Canyon Blues” out of Ocean City, MD weighed a monster 97-pound white marlin on Saturday that vaulted into 1st place and took $1.5 million from the now 2nd place 77-pound white. The fish was caught by Brandon Golueke from Chester, MD and stands as the 3rd largest white marlin weighed in the 47-year White Marlin Open history. Not too disheartening, the “Drillin & Billin” is still winning over $1.5 million for the second place white. The “Crisdel” out of Islamorada, FL weighed a 77-pound white on Saturday good for 3rd place and $90,000. The fish was taken by Frank Criscola from Bedminster, NJ.”
