Beach-quariums, Kiddie Pools and Live Wells

A few years ago James Blackstock and his family were on the beach and the kids were collecting all kinds of sand fleas, crabs, and anything else that swam or crawled near them. James took a small kiddie pool and made a holding tank or beach-quarium. The kids spent the day catching “pet” spot. Little did the girls know dad was storing bait for later. “The girls were having a blast catching spot in the surf. That was a fun day, until I wanted to use their “pet” spots for cut bait,” James Blackstock. In the video below you can see the beach-quarium near the end.
A recent picture of a quick way to make a kiddie pool has gone viral on Facebook. You can use a shower curtain to line a hole and fill it with water to make a small kiddie pool. I con’t even remember how many times the first things the kids ask for is a hole for water. You spend all day trying to dig a hole near the water line. This kiddie pool will work well in that situation, place an umbrella over it for some shade. A safe spot for the little ones to get wet and play in the water. This will also double as a live well for bait or any catches you want to store live until the end of the day. Just make sure you are following the creel limits. Fill in your hole when you are done.

I always have a large storage container with me in the truck full of boots and junk like that. In case I need a large container to hold water for whatever reason. This weekend we needed that container to hold Suzanne’s thirty four inch bluefish until the judge could qualify the fish. You get an extra point for the release. A five gallon bucket was not going to do that too well, we tried. Always good to have a decent sized container at the beach to hold fish. If you are keeping kingfish but need more than a couple. You can can keep them alive all day in a container or small kiddie pool.
Fish On!!
